Florida Insurance License Requirements

Florida General Lines Property and Casualty Insurance Agent:
Application Qualifications:
• Submit an application for License online with appropriate fees at https://aalf.fldfs.com/common/com_index.asp
• Be a natural person at least 18 years of age.
• Be a resident of the state of Florida.
• Be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services.
• Be fingerprinted at one of the Department’s fingerprint sites. For additional information regarding fingerprinting visit: http://www.myfloridacfo.com/Agents/Licensure/Agents-Adjusters/fingerprinting.htm
• If licensed in another state within three years, provide a Letter of Clearance.

State Examination Qualifications:
One of the following qualifications must be completed within four years of application date
• Successfully completed a 200 hour approved insurance course in all lines of property and casualty insurance or taught an approved classroom courses in property and casualty insurance at a school, college, or extension division
• Having at least six months of responsible insurance duties as a full-time bona fide employee (of an insurer, general lines agent or agency, etc.) in all lines of property and Casualty insurance and successfully completed a correspondence course in all lines of property and casualty insurance approved by the Department
• Completed at least one year in responsible insurance duties as a full-time bona fide employee in all lines (the areas of property, casualty, surety, health, and marine) of property and casualty insurance
• Completed a 40 hour classroom course approved by the Department in the areas of property, casualty, surety, marine and health insurance and completed at least one (1) year of responsible insurance duties as a licensed and appointed customer representative or limited customer representative
• Completed a 80 hour classroom course approved by the Department in the areas of property, casualty, surety, marine and health insurance and completed at least one (1) year of responsible insurance duties as a licensed and appointed service representative
• Successfully completed at least 15 semester hours of credit or its equivalent in property and casualty courses form an accredited college or university (an official transcript required);

Florida Life, Health and Annuity Insurance Agent:

Application Qualifications:
• Submit an application for License online with appropriate fees at https://aalf.fldfs.com/common/com_index.asp
• Be a natural person at least 18 years of age.
• Be a resident of the state of Florida.
• Be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services.
• Applicants may not be an employee of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or state service office, as referred to in Section 626.833, Florida Statutes.
• Be fingerprinted at one of the Department’s fingerprint sites. For additional information regarding fingerprinting visit: http://www.myfloridacfo.com/Agents/Licensure/Agents-Adjusters/fingerprinting.htm
• If licensed in another state within three years, provide a Letter of Clearance.

State Examination Qualifications
One of the following must be completed within the last four years
• Successfully completed 40 hour approved insurance course for life, health and variable annuity
• Successfully completed a correspondence course approved by the Department. This course is offered by the University of Florida (352) 392-1711
• Successfully completed at least 3 semester credit hours of life, health including variable annuity insurance course from an accredited college or university (an official transcript required);
